In 2014 The City of Milton was awarded Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funding for a project to develop a concept study for a connection from Milton to Big Creek Greenway System. This project partnered with the City of Alpharetta and the North Fulton Community Improvement District to enhance the alternative transportation and recreation options available to citizens, businesses and visitors to the area.
This project has been identified in several planning documents that demonstrate a regional significance and importance to this area including:
This project provides an opportunity for the project partners to develop and implement a plan that makes this connection a reality.
The proposed trail connection as part of this project would be a multimodal trail/greenway connecting the communities of Milton and Alpharetta (utilizing the existing Big Creek Greenway) with the surrounding businesses and neighborhoods. It would provide access to bicyclists and pedestrians for recreational purposes as well as trip making.
This project is evaluating potential location and connections for the proposed trail system. The base alignment for the trail was determined based on topography and property lines as well as the creek systems. A proposed tunnel or pedestrian bridge could be constructed across GA 400, the existing interchange of Windward Pkwy at GA 400 could be retrofitted to accommodate a trail, or the bridge over GA 400 at Webb Bridge Road could be upgraded in the future to provide access to the Big Creek Greenway. The final alignment is subject to change based on the final design phase for the project. Ultimately, there is a desire to connect the project study area to the existing Big Creek greenway.
A public meeting was held on Tuesday, March 17th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Milton City Hall Council Chambers. The information presented at the meeting included:
