Sara Leaders serves as the Interim Public Works Director, following the departure of Carter Lucas in February 2019. She began her career with the City of Milton in 2007, serving as the City's Transportation Engineer.
Leaders manages the design, construction and inspection of public capital improvement projects; the Streets Division, which maintains streets and sidewalks in the ciy; the Traffic Control Division, which maintains all traffic control devices within the city streets; stormwater drainage; bridges; and the long-range planning and development of the city’s transportation network.
Leaders is a professional engineer with more than 15 years experience in planning, design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure. She is a licensed professional engineer in Georgia. She is a current member of the American Society of Highway Engineers and the American Public Works Association.
Prior to joining the City of Milton, Leaders worked as a project manage with Lowe Engineers for four years.
Leaders is a 2003 graduate of Southern Polytechnic State University, now known as Kennesaw State University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering, minoring in technical and professional communication. During her studies, Leaders was awarded the Civil Engineering Technology Student of the Year.
A resident of Milton, Leaders has a unique appreciation for and understanding of local transportation needs and actively works to engage Milton citizens in transportation planning efforts.
