Summer in Milton

Monday, June 6, 2016 at 10:30 AM

It seems like just a few weeks ago we were getting ready for Spring Break! Where does the time go?  Summer is here--the kids are out of school, vacations have started, and the temperatures are getting warm. It is a great time to get out and enjoy summer!

With summer comes some fantastic things in Milton. The first I want to talk about is our Memorial Day Ceremony, held last Monday, May 30 at Freedom Park.

This year’s ceremony was the best yet, with a crowd of more than 400. We’ve all received a big outpouring of support and good feedback from residents about this year’s program, so if you’ve never attended, join us next year!

Now on to June itself. It’s always a big month around City Hall, because we kick off our summer camps as soon as the kids are out of school. This year, we’ve got general camps, plus specific camps for basketball, football, lacrosse, tennis and music. And it’s not too late to sign up. There are spots available all summer, so make sure to check out our program list online to see what your child might enjoy.

Also be sure to join us for our annual Flicks & Food Trucks Summer Series. This last weekend was rained out with those summer showers we seem to get so often. Good news though, we will be back in July with Field of Dreams and The Blind Side in August – complete with gourmet food trucks on the front lawn of Milton High School!

We are starting something new this year in June, Milton Volunteer Month. We have so many wonderful residents that generously give their time to make this a better place and we need you to tell us about them and help us brag on them! Share their stories with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with #volunteermilton all month!

As always, I’ll close by saying your City Hall is always open to your concerns, questions and comments. Be sure to take some time this month to stop by and tell us what you think.

Sincerely,

Mayor Joe Lockwood
